Abre (white Ramadan sheets)

Hilu-mur's pale sister: thin white spiced sorghum sheets dissolved into a milky, gently sour cooler for the fast's end.

History and culture

Made in the same great pre-Ramadan bakes as hilu-mur, abre is the gentler pour — children's first fast is broken with it.

Ingredients

  • Dried white abre sheets
  • Cold water
  • Sugar

How it is made

  1. Crumble the sheets into cold water; soak until dissolved.
  2. Strain fine; sweeten.
  3. Chill deeply and pour at the adhan.
