Photographs marked CC BY or CC BY-SA are used under Creative Commons licences that require credit to the photographer; CC BY-SA additionally requires that adaptations be shared under the same terms. Public-domain and CC0 works carry no such condition. Unsplash and Pexels photographs are used under those platforms' licences, which permit free use — credit is given here regardless, because the photographers earned it.

On the people in them. Copyright and personality rights are separate things. Photographs showing identifiable people appear here for cultural documentation only; they do not imply that any person, business or institution endorses this archive. Anyone who appears in a photograph and wants it removed should say so, and it will be removed.

On what is missing — the full list. Eleven slots on this site have no verified free-licence photograph yet and hold placeholder artwork drawn for the archive. They are, in full: the Sanganeb lighthouse and Dinder National Park (Atlas); five craft studies on the Heritage page — the tabag basket, the sayāl acacia, the potter, silverwork and weaving; and four dishes in the Kitchen — mahashi, karkade, basbousa and kawari. None of these are photographs, and none should be taken as documentary evidence of how a place or a dish looks today. Each will be replaced the moment a properly licensed photograph exists.
